This recollection of events that has happened over the course of uFo's life has been compiled by AndyAtlas. All efforts have been made to ensure the history is as accurate as alienly (not humanly) possible.

Act 1 : A Clan Is Born

Clan uFo was the offspring of the alien mating rituals of ArchDeluxe and Jubi. Conceived in the fall of 1997 on the Hfront playing fields, Clan uFo commenced an Alien Invasion of planet Earth. MoonSocket, our first Clan Leader, and Jocobo were some of the first probers hired on. On a roll, uFo recruited myself and countless other alien wannabees including Erm27, Gutted, HedgeHog, Zaphod, and Micah.

Because uFo is such a cool handle, we got kidded a lot about it. All kinds of jokes at our expense. But we took it well, which was noticed. Hence our good reputation was born.

Handle Design: *uFo*Alien*

The Reign of MoonSocket:
Moon ran a tight ship, scolding members to not play newbie maps and thereby degrading our skills. He put together one kickass tourney roster for the first Clan Wars (whose name later changed to the APL). I was playing eight hours a day and I wasn’t good enough to start in some games. Icer, Acolyte, and Yebo were some of our regular starters. Clan uFo not only made it to the playoffs, but won three post-season matches. We were like one game away from the championship.

Gutted and myself were co-leaders under Moon. I have always wanted a co-leader that worked as hard as I did when I held that slot. And I have gotten that wish time and again. I should have wished to win the lottery.

Clan uFo gets a Website:
Gutted was our first webmaster and produced a damned good site complete with animated space ships and other cool graphics. One of my favorite features was a humor section where aliens could post jokes and pics. We even had contests, like seeing who could cut down MoonSocket the best. Gutted maintained a constantly changing top ten list of Moon-jokes. Da Gut coined the term "probe" and the concept of "probing." Other terms Gutted has introduced include "Probe-bation" and "Alien Invasion."

Act 2 : Clan uFo Almost Disbands

When I said Moon ran a tight ship, I wasn’t kidding. He began booting members that didn’t measure up to his standards. He even booted one of our founders, Jubi and first members, Jocobo. After the Clan Wars, Moon decided to leave uFo for a new clan: SiD (Snipers in Disguise). Yes, SiD kicked ass, but where are they now?

Unfortunately, in his quest for that perfect team, Moon neglected to hand over the reins of uFo. Gutted, with my backing, assumed power. Well, to add insult to injury, a few days after Moon left uFo, he announces Acolyte as the new Clan Leader. A little too late, Gutted and I thought. But, the clan took sides and Acolyte ended up leaving along with numerous other aliens.

Hell on Earth:
61 days of hell. Hfront was gone. ARC was no more. Everyone thought it was the end and were posting goodbyes on all forums. Except me, because I knew ARC wouldn’t go away! 59…60…61…ta da! ARC is back on pre-TEN! Joy of joys! Our prayers answered! Fortunately, no one died from ARC-withdrawals, but there were some close calls. I never realized how much time I spent at ARC and as Co-Leader.

During the 61-day hiatus, Clan uFo expanded into other gaming divisions including BattleNet, StarCraft, and Diablo II. We wanted to hedge our bets that our clan would still be together if and when ARC came back.

Handle Design: uFo_Alien

(TEN had a ten-character tag limit and the asterisks took up too much space on our tag).

The Gutted Empire:
Time period is Pre-Ten, early 1998. The only handles available were those arc1, arc2, etc. tags. At first, Pre-TEN only opened 50 accounts, and people were illegally password protecting a lot of those accounts. Then, Pre-TEN opens 50 more slots, then more, etc. I applied for and was accepted as a beta-tester for Pre-TEN, meaning I could use my handle, AndyAtlas, instead of those increasing hard to find arc### tags. It greatly helped with my visibility, and I was Co-Leader of uFo, which reflected well on the clan.

Gutted was a good Clan Leader except for one problem, he didn’t want to recruit anyone. All candidates I presented he shot down. This goes on and on. Looking back later, Gutted said he didn’t want Clan uFo to change or something like that. The first APL season starts and uFo makes the cut. But, we were down to five aliens and we forfeited our first APL match. In fact, I was the only alien to show up. I was told that if we forfeited one more game, we would be out of the APL. Clan uFo’s darkest hours…

Act 3 : Andy-in-Charge

Finally, Gutted announces that he is taking a job out of town and doesn’t know how long he will be gone. So he hands over the reins to me. We are down to four active aliens. My first actions were to recruit like crazy. Some good catches were Maverick and Xander, who eventually became Co-Leaders. Mav, I made Co-Leader right away. Later I found out he was only 14 years old. I thought he was at least 18, but I figured if he could do the job, no problem. Jubi and Jocobo also regained probe licenses.

Gutted returns after two weeks to a new Clan uFo. Lots of new faces. And he wants the reins back. Well, I figured I deserved to keep them, seeing how I kept the clan from disbanding, and Gutted relented. But I think he felt dissed. Which may explain Gutted’s actions to come, including wanting to turn over the web site to another alien.

Website Wars:
Gutted said he wanted help with the uFo site, but every alien I talked into helping was chewed out by Gutted when they didn’t do the site correctly. And Gutted would do it in public. It was hard to get aliens to volunteer to help, and Gutted kept getting more belligerent (btw, there are no hard feelings between myself and Gutted, I’m just stating events as I remember them).

After I had had enough, I drafted our Policies and Procedures, focusing on the Code of Conduct first. I wanted to have in writing what was acceptable behavior for aliens. I told Gutted where the line was drawn and he decided to step over it. Booting Gutted was the hardest decision I have ever made as a Clan Leader. Da Gut and I were good online friends (which is probably why he thought he could get away with bad behavior).

Before I booted Gutted, I was worried that he might take his website away. So I decided uFo doing without a website was better than half the clan leaving because that’s what they were threatening. Gutted tried to get me to change my mind, talking till 5:30 am on a work night. I did, he wore me out…lol. But realized, when I was falling asleep at work, that Gutted had to go. Clan uFo lost one of it’s finest members, not to mention it’s website.

Act 4 : Orphaned Aliens, Part I

To recap, Gutted got the boot and uFo lost its website. Losing the website was my decision. I couldn’t see asking Gutted to maintain our site after booting him. When da Gut’s site went down, the poor aliens were homeless, with no shelter to properly polish our probes. No forums! How could the Humans interface???

Time Period: 1998-1999
Handle Design: uFo_Alien

One of our new recruits, Validir, offered to do up a site for us and asked me what I wanted. I was happy to get a news page and forums, but Val gave a lot more. (And no more of those gay jokes back there! I see you.) The new site rocked! I came up with a new clan logo (the old one was Gutted’s). It had the words "CLAN UFO" looking like the con trail of an aircraft coming at you, with the "O" in UFO a little "O" shaped UFO. Val pasted it on a pic of a real UFO picture that had a scenic desert landscape at sundown. It kicked ass – the only drawback was that was only a thumbnail, no larger. But it still looked cool. And the large logo looked good too. Unfortunately, both Val and I have since lost the logo.

All Hail The Webmaster:
Maintaining a website is hard work. Webmasters have to be in-love with it, or be paid, in order to put up with the day-to-day maintenance. Webmasters have to be left alone to go do…that voodoo…that they do…so well…so I left Val on his own, with me only giving comments. But, the day came when Val couldn’t keep up with the maintenance and wanted to turn it over to another alien…Clan uFo…homeless-bound…again…

Who would step up to the task? Who wanted to endure the endless hours of website maintenance. The day-to-day thankless toil of the damned? The complaints? Who was that much of a gluten for punishment?

Act 5 : Orphaned Aliens, Part II

In our last episode, Val wanted to retire as webmaster. Who would fill those shoes? Who? The Mavster! That’s who! Yes, that two-anus alien (story on that later) and duck farmer (story on that now). The Mavster actually had a job on a duck farm. He liked it except when they had to brand them. It also sucked when the ducks got spooked and stampeded. It’s also where mav has his first sexual experiences…with ducks…lol.

Mav’s site kicked alien ass! I can’t remember much about it. Maybe Mav could refresh my memory.

Maverick: 'During my webmaster times I can't really take credit for the website. Basically what happened was this: Validir was a busy man and well, I was a computer nerd. If you put two and two together you get Mav the webmaster. What I did was maintain the site that Val had already completed, aside from the UCC and Links pages, I made those from scratch. I was especially proud of the UCC page though, hehe. I made a flow-chart for each of the 1v1 and 2v2 tournies and then I would post it on the site with a summary next to it. Then, using my negative skills in webdesign, I added my own little touches here and there to the page. Basically it was just a bunch of pages using basic html forms and stuff. The awesome part though is that I did it all through notepad, the kewlest program of them all :-P...'

Tourney Aliens:
When uFo forfeited that first APL game, I focused on never forfeiting another one, and we didn’t for 4 years. Did I get lucky or what? Come to think of it, I did make every uFo tourney match for about 4 years. The only game I missed was when I went to a Carolina Panthers game with my brother and family. Guess my attendance helped out with not forfeiting. Was I a good division president or what? Andy-son say: "Man that pat’s own back cannot block kick to groin."

The aliens have never won a tourney, although we have made the playoffs many times. There are several reasons why, but dangit if I can remember any of them. I’m sure our focus on sportsmanship and attitude and not on talent has something to do with it. In more than one tourney we have side-lined our best starter because of attitude. And when a good player gets side-lined, he sometimes figures he should play for a team he can start for. And we say good riddance. We look at how a given action affects the clan as a whole. And what’s best for the clan is usually what we end up doing. We have worked hard to earn our reputation. And we aren’t letting any prima-donnas piss on it.

Death of TEN:
TEN was our best host ever. It had tons of bandwidth and allowed hosting of games without needing a rouge server. But, TEN had gaping security holes. And cheaters ran amok. God mode, unlimited weapons, walking thru walls, etc. TEN managed to counter most of the cheats, and we would encounter less of the cheaters. Since TEN wasn’t making money off of ARC, they didn’t put a lot of resources into counter hacks...until the hackers started crashing TEN servers. And not only the ones for ARC, but other games that TEN hosted. An entire gaming network at the mercy of jr. hackers. Finally, TEN succumbed to the cheaters and shut down. Woe to ARCers. What will happen now? Will we have to face yet another endless wait wondering if ARC is coming back?

[ Top ]

Act 6 : The WONder Years

In our last episode, we were saying goodbye to TEN. But before we bury it, I wanted to reminisce a bit. When TEN was shutdown, the owners decided to change their name and startup a gaming network focused on board games, card games, etc. I was thinking: "I guess no one would want to hack a game of checkers."

uCC ala-TEN:
uFo Clan Competitions was an idea I had to get the clan to practice more and to have fun. These inner-clan tourneys consisted of 1v1s and 2v2s, single elimination. Since Hfront only had a maximum of 5 maps up at a time, it was impossible to start the uCC on the Hoopy servers. It was easy with TEN, since anyone could host an endless number of maps, with complete control of specials, damage, number of players, etc. Mav would post the winners of the 1v1s and 2v2s each week, along with a recap of the games.

Time Period: 2000 or so
Server: WON
Early WON handle: uFo_Alien or uFoAlien
Eventual WON handle: *uFo* Alien

Unlike TEN, only WON servers could host maps, which really sucked. Plus the WON servers had nowhere near the bandwidth that TEN had. But, better a crappy server than no ARC at all.

Unidentified WONbe Aliens:
Smurfing became a big problem for uFo, because any newbie could create an account with uFo_ in front of their handle. It didn’t help that aliens were also using smurf names with the uFo tag. So I amended our policy to bar the use of smurf names with the uFo tag.

Since WON didn’t have the ten-character name limit like TEN, we decided to change the tag to *uFo* Alien. This was very close to our tag on Hfront: *uFo*Alien*. The smurfs eventually got creative and were using asci spaces instead of the usual space bar in their *uFo* Alien smurf names, but their names would appear out of order with the rest of the clan (they would appear a the bottom of the list of aliens).

Xander got smurfed once in a tourney match. Since he had been inactive, I told him to wait in the lobby. When he didn’t leave, I told him to sub. But he just wouldn’t move off the starting lineup. I let it slide since I thought it was Xander. But come to find out, it wasn’t. And of course we lost that game.

Erm27 got smurfed an entire season. We found out when I was thanking him for making so many games and he was like "I only played 1 maybe 2 games." I verified it was the correct erm I was talking to though ICQ. The smurf Erm27 was our best starter…lol. But alas, this was also the season when we didn’t win one single match. To avoid a lot of embarrassment, the uFo Leaders decided to keep that smurfing incident a clan secret. That is, up until now.

Act 7 : Introducing The ARC Division President

Before I introduce our ARC DP slot, I need to give a history of my other two Co-Leaders, Xander and Kavon. Xander was a good leader. The "Slim Jim" was also our scout. ("Don’t worry ladies, plenty of spicy beef to go around.") Before each tourney match, he would give an assessment of our opponents and suggestions on how to kick ass. Poor Xander, being at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. So many women, such little time. I originally thought two Co-Leaders was enough, but it was too much work to spread around with Xander being inactive (you can figure out why). And poor Mav with his dual anuses (or is that ansi?) and duck herding-emergencies.

Introducing our third Co-Leader, Kavon. I watched Kavon for a long time, with him being a potential Co-Leader in mind. Kavon did have those darned temper flare-ups every now and then, but at least you know where you stood with him. And he had those rugged Austr-alien good looks to boot. Kav was our Leader in-charge-of tourneys. Kavon did a damned good job of relieving the workload, but I still had to devote lot of time to running the clan.

DP Considerations:
With my new job, I knew I would be doing a lot of travel and wouldn’t have as much time to spend on the clan. We needed another leader. I had been thinking about an ARC Division President for a long time, since we had presidents in our other gaming divisions. Another factor that weighed in for the ARC DP Slot was that our clan needed a better manager of our tourney rosters. We leaders were good at running the clan, but we never seem to do well in tourneys. (Later we realized it was because of our stance on attitude over skill, but back then we figured we needed some new management blood.)

Election Selection:
Now the leaders had to come up with how to select the ARC DP: Appointment by myself or the uFo Leaders or a general election? A good thing with elections is that when the DP became inactive, we could just replace him. As you can see with Xander and the U.S. Supreme Court, Co-Leaders are a lifetime appointment and not subject to being "demoted." So elections were the solution and everything fell into place.

I liked the idea of voting for the president. I didn’t like the idea of two aliens competing for the same slot and possibly taking it personal. (I’m happy to report that we have never had that problem.) Even with closely contested and heated elections, it’s always fun to get the aliens together and have a good voting session. And aliens like to know they have a say in important matters. The only thing left was to announce the ARC DP slot and accept applications. And hope that ARC would still be around. We find out WON will no longer be hosting ARC.

[ Top ]

Act 8 : Sierra Servers

When we last left off, we determined the details for the selection of our ARC Division President (a review of the presidency of each will be in a future installment). We also found out WON would no longer be hosting ARC. Yet another ARC-host changeover. We hoped, anyway.

Fortunately, Sierra took over ARC hosting and the change was almost seamless -- with the exception of having to reload ARC half a dozen times with updates. And, we didn’t have to put up with all those banner bars that WON used. Remember those? How stupid can you get?

For those that don’t remember, WON had these banner bars that would pop up on the bottom of your ARC map when you when you entered a game. You had to click on them to remove’em, but when you did, it opened a browser window. Like that’s the first freaking thing you wanted to do when you entered a game, go check out a web site. What Einstein came up with that idea? Know how everything has mass? Well this guy was a dumb mass.

The Death of Name Reg:
Name registration (i.e., no new accounts) went down after a couple of years to combat the massive cheating problems. Eventually, cheaters had to stop when they ran out of accounts. They liked ARC and didn’t want to lose their ability to play.

Our clan had many, many *uFo* smurf tags, so aliens that joined after name reg went down were provided with a *uFo* tag. There were so many, I had to keep a cross-reference to know who the hell I was talking to. What made it harder was the fact that we constantly recycled names as aliens left.

In 2004, the owners of the Sierra servers (the fourth largest media company in the world, can’t remember their name, Vid-something) announced it was shutting down many games, including ARC, by the end of the month July. We always knew ARC wouldn’t last forever and now we were looking at THE END. Kavon urged all aliens to keep in contact on the forums, and to check the ARC-HQ forums for any related news.

Since ARC was nearing extinction, the head admin, Error, was put under a lot of pressure to allow name creation. One day, he jokingly said that if we could get 100 ARCers in one lobby, he would reinstate name reg. We had well over 100 ARCers in a matter of minutes. Error relented. We were down to our last *uFo* smurf tag, so the timing was good. Finally, all aliens could use their actual handle with our tag.

Towards the last few days, ARC admins started creating games reminiscent of hfront: 60-person maps. Oh, what fun. Massive pings, lag shooting, walking med-kits, deja-vu. The circle was complete. ARC started off laggy with huge player maps and was going out that way.

ARC a.k.a Jason:
Like Jason of the slice and dice movies, ARC refused to die. No matter how much “they” hack at the code or canceled its money supply, ARC arises out of the ashes. So was the case with Sierra. By some divine intervention, a higher-up at the “Vid-something” corporation decides to allow ARC to continue on the Sierra servers. How the heck did someone at the Vid-something give a crap about a 2D, no money, hackety-code game?

(Actually, I’ll let you in on a secret: Alien Mind Melding.) The Mothership couldn’t let our best supply of human probees get tossed to the wayside. A search was conducted as to which human could save ARC. He was abducted and forced to “sign ze paper, olt mon.” So, Clan uFo saves ARC and ensured our continued supply of human rectums.

[ Top ]

Act 9 : The Osiris Era

During our last episode, Clan uFo saves ARC by abducting and mind-melding a human, causing the Vid-something Corporation (glorious owners of ARC) to let ARC live. Name registration was back up and a new era of ARC was born. There were many voices that wanted this time period to be called “The Osiris Era.”

Osiris had many, many close friends within the ARC community. He was one of the best-known aliens. But not because he was in uFo. He was best known for being the lead ARC admin, besides the fact that he was a super nice guy. In real life he was married with a child and was a disk jockey -- but I’m not sure if it was a hobby or profession. I wish I had gotten to know him better. But you always figure there would be time…

Although Osiris wasn't too active playing ARC (too busy being lead admin), meetings, or forums and hardly ever played in tourneys, he kept us from forfeiting many games by showing up at the last minute. And he was always there for us when we needed "admin" support. It reflected well on us that the lead admin was an alien. And when he did show up at a meeting, it seemed like a special occasion that he was there.

Osiris had a high profile in the ARC community and dedicated a lot of time to ARC. But suddenly, he was gone without a trace. His sudden inactivity was noticed AND questioned. There have been many, many ARCers that have “vanished” over the years. We wondered what happened to them. But, if they didn’t have any friends in real life that played ARC, we had no way to find out.

Some words from Error posted on ARC HQ:
“There's recently been a claim that Osiris has died. I, and the rest of the ARC staff, hope that this isn't true of course. In the case that it is, this is a sad day for us all and I'll say this: Jesse (Osiris) was a great person, a great friend.”

”He took over the job of lead admin from Ghent and I believe he did a better job then any previous Lead Admin. He was always ready to help anyone out. His loss is all of our loss, and in these times of sadness we should feel especially sorry for his wife and child, whom not only lost a friend, but also a husband and a father.”

Say it ain’t so:
Error was responding to a post on ARC HQ made by a “friend” of Osiris that he had died. We posted on our website that we could neither confirm or deny the rumors. No one had a contact that knew Osiris in real life. A few weeks later, the same “friend” again posted that the news was indeed true. I’m guessing that one of his friends in real life knew about his ARC gaming, didn’t actually play ARC, and just wanted to let us know out of respect for him.

Osiris was one of the main reasons we started up the Honorary Alien roster -- for those aliens that weren’t too active, but earned the right to wear the uFo tag permanently. It's a fitting tribute to Osiris that as long as there is a Clan uFo, he will be remembered.

I talked to Osiris about a week before he passed. He gave me two *uFo* handles he had. (These were very valuable since name reg was down.) I wish I could remember which they were. I think one was *uFo* Death. It was almost like he knew he was going away and wanted us to have them. Man, if I had only known it was the last time I would ever talk to him...

May Osiris forever remind us of what an alien represents: integrity, loyalty, sportsmanship, trust, team spirit, and family – not necessarily in that order.

(R.I.P. bro, we’ll miss you)

Act 10 : A History of ARC DPs, Pt 1

In our last episode, we paid respects to one of the all-time greatest ARCers and alien brother, Osiris. In this episode, we’ll revisit the reigns of our ARC Division Presidents.

We held our first ARC DP election in the fall of 1999. The following is a listing of our ARC DPs and a few words on their presidencies. Dates and order are approximations. It’s not like I wrote any of this shit down or anything…lol

Lord Locnar: 1999 - 2000
Ahhh, our first Clan uFo ARC Division President. In a land-slide vote, Lord Locnar won the election. Locnar was a friend in real life, and in fact, he rented a room in my house. He was a natural leader with tons of charisma. He came up with the Assault Fleet -- those aliens on our tourney roster that had their own code of conduct. Reminded me of the samurai. If you wanted to play in leagues, you had to be in the Assault Fleet. They had scheduled practices and their own meetings immediately following our clan meetings. Best strategy we’ve had so far for leagues.

Ghost: 2000
How he became DP would be a funny story if it didn’t happen to your clan. Locnar steps down unexpectedly while I was at the National Training Center in California. I was supporting a field exercise for the U.S. Army. I was gone for a month and working 14-hour days. It didn’t leave time for much else. Our other leaders weren’t active and I was way too busy. I needed someone to help run the clan. I wasn’t too picky and wasn’t active enough to get to know him. So we put Ghost up for vote. He won. We lost. He’s gone. Good riddance…lol (btw Ghost, no hard feelings)

Kondor: 2000
Ghost was asked to resign as an alien; we again needed to find a DP in a hurry. I’ve never had an alien say “no” when I asked them. Krondor did a good job, but just didn’t have the time needed to devote to the DP slot. He did manage to secure an HA spot.

Jubi: 2000
One of our founding fathers and great all around alien. I can’t remember if/when he was DP, so I stuck his write-up here. He was laid back as DP (or was that a Co-Leader spot I had him in?) He would take care of tasks I needed done and even recruited an alien or two. But Jubi had all these women IRL, so he didn’t have a lot of time to devote to the DP/Co-Leader slot. You know…

Kavon: 2000-2001
Kavon is the only Co-Leader that has held the office of ARC Division President. He was an excellent DP. His only drawback was that he couldn’t make the league games on weekends, since his Aussie time was off by a half a day. But he had solid strategies, kept up with the leagues and good had support from his DVP, who ever that was. Kav as DP was a good test for his being a Co-Leader. He is a natural leader and commands instant respect.

Mr Kill: 2001-2002
It was a tight race between Mr. Kill and Decy for ARC DP. He won, but it was close. MK and I discussed what I wanted out of him. I wanted to try something new, a DP that was a stronger, more demanding leader, kinda the way MoonSocket, our first Clan Leader, was. Unfortunately, it didn’t mesh well with our laid-back alien ways. I still wonder if it was just him, or did our pre-presidency talk cause him to come off as being overbearing. But, MK proved his leadership skills when he formed the clan MK – Mullet Kings. They went on to win their first league. I’m not sure how long they lasted, but they kicked ass in tourneys. Our best league DP ever.

Die: 2002
With MK leaving so soon, we again needed to elect a DP in a hurry. Die won by a landslide and it was down hill from there. A true leader, Die upheld the highest standards of uFology. He led by example and exhibited God-like leadership qualities. If you looked up the word “leader” in a dictionary, there would be a pic of Die next to it. Actually, I really, really can’t remember anything, except that Die was DP at some time, but I figured I’d say something nice.

Tekno: 2002
(See Die: 2002, replace the “MK” with “Die” and other four “Die” with “Tekno.”)

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this episode.

Act 11 : A History of ARC DPs, Pt 2

When we last left off, we had reviewed the terms of our first eight ARC Division Presidents. I didn't realize how many we've gone through till I counted them. Damn… all those poor, burned out young aliens.

Blaze: 2002-2003
A popular DP. His butt-buddy, err…, I mean sidekick, well, maybe partner, was PoopScoop. In our uCCs, the team of BlazingPoop kicked the fiery sh*t outta opponents. Get it? Blazing/Poop and kick the fiery sh*t? Huh? Well, WE sure got it (shivers at the probe-pain). Nothing exciting about Blaze's presidency, except for the time he smurfed as a female and had cyber sex with Kavon. Needless to say, if Kav had been the same continent as Blaze, Blaze would have lived up to his team name. (Editor's Note: Just wanted to point out that this really didn't happen. Blaze is not gay like Gem.)

Solo: 2003 - 2004
In a tight race with Condor, Solo wins by one vote. Often referred to as “our best all-around DP,” he pretty much ran the clan -- which was his eventual downfall. Running a clan is a lot of work and after a while (i.e., years), one tends to get burned out. You have to delegate the work. That's the reason our clan has survived so long -- no Clan Leader burnout. Solo's presidency lasted longer than all the other DPs combined. His mastery of running the clan meant my job was much easier. Which probably contributed to the burn-out – I should have helped more. Lesson learned.

StraightFaced: 2004 - 2005
When Solo was going though his final inactivity, SF stepped up and took it upon himself to be Team Captain for our leagues. With his leadership, we were able to survive being in two leagues at the same time and actually made the playoffs in both. SF was good at being team captain, but needed help running a large clan. I was so used to how Solo ran things that I didn't step up and support SF like I should have. Hence, another lesson learned. (But damn, tought I done lert dat un.) I plead that I had a lot going on in my personal and professional life during those times. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Condor: 2005
SF went AWOL and our clan went though major changes. We were in the middle of an APL season and most of our starters left the clan. Condor accepted the appointment as DP and carried our limping roster through the season with no forfeits. Condor resigned at the end of the APL season to devote his limited ARC time to probing the sh*t outta the humans -- and being a general pain in the ass to aliens. (Get it? ………How often?)

Size: 2005 - 2006
We held a leader meeting with myself, Kavon, Xander, Condor and Size and decided to appoint rather than elect our next DP. The precedent was set as we appointed SF, and then Condor as DP. Size was selected as DP because of his leadership qualities and dedication. I had spent a lot of time talking with Size and felt he would fit right in as a uFo Leader. Size knows his weak areas and seeks help/advice when needed. He has performed very well as DP and I look forward to a long, productive presidency.

Punk0r: 2006 - 2007
This last year had to of been the most tenuous on everyone with ARC's demise announced. Size was promoted to co-leader and eventually leader while most of the current council went inactive due to various reasons. Punk0r being a dependable DvP was promoted to DP and lead the charge with the assistance and backing of his clan mates and friends.

Shampain: 2007 - End
Punk0r stepped down during the first quarter of 2007 to deal with some issues life had quickly brought to his attention and left the reigns in the hands of Shampain, who was Punk0r's DvP at the time. Shampain probably had it toughest of all dealing with the death of ARC and wondering how to manage it all. He made a valiant effort with the time he held in office and was the last to hold the DP position in the Osiris Era.

Act 12 : The End of ARC

So it was on August 16th, 2007 that ARC had finally closed it's doors to the public, and the end of it's 10 year linage came to an end. For everyone who played.. both humans and aliens alike, we can safely say this game has touched our lives in some way, and that we shall always remember it for what it was. Though a few months after two servers appeared out of the blue and are still accessible to this day, the game and it's community have moved on to bigger and better places.

ARC-HQ, the center for the majority of the ARC community is rarely active these days. It's mostly filled with posts of nostalgic remembrances of past years and people. The ones whom we befriended for years and the ones whom had lost their lives in tragic accidents. There are still remnants of their vestige in the community which can both soothe ones heart, or cause it great anguish. And it was that this was more than just a game people came to play when they were bored, but a gathering of people world wide to discuss ideas, befriend one another, and live alternately to reality.

The end of an era.. we here at Clan uFo will miss it dearly, and miss those who take their leave with it aswell. I can safely speak for everyone when I say this: Good game, ARC.. good game.

Act 13 : The Spark Era

So it was not shortly after ARC has died that a band of people lead by Remote created a clone in it's very image, and dubd it "Spark". With a good portion of the previous community backing the game it has come to be a second home to friend and strangers alike. Still in beta status there is much work to be done, but with people chipping in for new graphics, new sound bits, hosting servers.. this is one of the greatest undergoing that this community has ever taken part of.

In late 2007 Spark opened it's doors to a homeless community and has since played a major roll in it's evolution.

Act 14 : The Revival of uFo

In October of 2008 plans were made to bring uFo into the mainstream of Spark. With much backing from past members like Punk0r, Doth, Phrozen and other retired aliens who gave their support, uFo had begun their universal probing once more. While there's still much to do, uFo has shown that even though a game in which they had been a part of for 10 years had died, they weren't about to quit there. Through much we have traveled and experienced since our conception, there are still Clan Wars and Leagues out there that need dominating. And we shall continue to be the victors
