1.0 Gaming Divisions

1.1
Clan uFo is made up of several gaming divisions, each representing participation in a particular internet game. Our flagship division is ARC. Our BattleNet Division encompasses all games played on BattleNet. Our other gaming divisions are currently in hibernation.

1.2 A President leads each division.

1.3 A Vice-President, appointed by the Division President, co-leads each division.

2.0 Alien Responsibilities

2.1 Clan Leader: Every organized body of people (or aliens) has one person at the top. The Clan Leader is that alien. His job is to oversee all clan activities. He (with clan input) compiles the clan policies and procedures.

2.2 Co-Leader: There are three Co-Leaders. In the absence of the Clan Leader, each Co-Leader has as much authority as the Clan Leader. Co-Leaders assist in recruiting, training, and enforcing uFo policy. Co-Leaders are appointed by the Clan Leader.

2.3 Division President: Each uFo division has a president. Presidents decide all aspects of their division including recruitment, rank structure, meetings, policy, etc. Division Presidents are expected to conform to Clan uFo policies. This is to ensure that all decisions made by the presidents are in the spirit of our clan. DPs are voted in by members of his/her division.

2.4 ARC Division President: Since ARC is our flagship game; the ARC DP has fewer responsibilities than other DPs. The ARC DP maintains the ARC tourney rosters and approves all ARC division recruits. The ARC Division President is considered a uFo Leader and has equal voting rights as such. The ARC DP is determined by a clan vote.

2.5 ARC Division Vice-President: The ARC DVP assists the ARC DP. The ARC DVP is considered a uFo Leader and has equal voting rights as such. The ARC DVP is appointed by the ARC DP.

2.6 Webmaster: The webguys keeps our site beautiful. And the more beautiful our site, the more humans we can probe. If anybody in the clan deserves a salary for their contributions, the webguys do. Webmasters are appointed by the uFo Leaders.

2.7 Recruiter: Recruiters are responsible for procuring new talent for uFo. They are the point-of-contact between potential aliens and the uFo Leaders. Recruiters are solely responsible for evaluating recruits and making recommendations of their probe worthiness. Recruiters are encouraged to interview candidates and to post the results. Recruiters are appointed by the ARC DP.

2.8 Aliens: Any alien wearing our handle represents uFo. Aliens are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that will reflect well on our clan (i.e., no whining, excessive swearing, temper tantrums, spamming, etc.). Aliens are also encouraged to participate in clan events such as meetings, practice sessions, and tournaments.

2.9 Honorary Alien: A "retired" alien. These probers are highly respected clan members, but just don't play ARC much any more for whatever reason. On the few occasions that they are on ARC, HA's can wear the *uFo* tag. When we say "uFo for life" we mean it. These members can petition the clan to get reinstated if they become active again. HA's have no voting rights and cannot participate in official tourneys. Requirements for HA status include being active with Clan uFo for over one year and not joining any other ARC clan since leaving Clan uFo.

3.0 Meetings

3.1 Meetings are held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 PM, EST (7 PM PST) in a chat room on ARC.

3.2 Tuesday Night meetings consist of a short meeting and then a practice session. A clan war or uCC may be scheduled.

3.3 Meeting attendance is not mandatory, but all aliens are encouraged to participate. Meetings are important because they get the aliens together for clan business and very valuable practice sessions.

3.4 Occasionally, the ARC DP will schedule practice sessions. These practices are mandatory for those aliens on our tourney roster.

4.0 Recruitment

4.1 Recruitment into Clan uFo is by invitation only. This is to prevent hordes of alien wannabes from spamming our aliens.

4.2 Leaders reserve the right to open recruitment when they deem necessary. Only when recruitment is open will other arcers be allowed to apply on our forums.

4.3 Aliens will only refer nipple pilots to our recruiters that they themselves think are good enough. Aliens will resist the urge to say "so and so is our recruiter" to just any alien wannabe.

4.4 Those with probe-potential are encouraged to post on our recruitment forum. Our recruiters will scan the forum and select promising probers for an interview.

4.5 Recruiters will evaluate candidates on skill and attitude. The Recruiters recommend candidates that are deemed probe-worthy to the uFo Leaders.

4.6 Those that pass the uFo Leaders' scrutiny are voted upon by the clan. (See Voting)

4.7 Candidates that are voted in will undergo a two-week or longer Probe-bation. (See Glossary)

4.8 Candidates that have been voted upon and did not make the clan for whatever reason shall be required to wait a minimum of a 2 week period before re-applying. Failure to do so will result in an immediate cancellation of the current application and the 2 week waiting period shall start again.

4.9 In special circumstances the leaders and clan may decide to allow certain candidates and applicants a fast-tracked application. In this instance 4.8 may not apply.

5.0 Voting

All voting is considered confidential (not to be discussed with non-clan members) and fall into two categories: Recruitment and Division President.

5.1 Recruitment:

5.1.1 Once the recruiters and uFo Leaders approve a candidate, an announcement is made at a meeting that we are voting on "xyz" candidate. At the following meeting, the clan votes will be totaled.

5.1.2 During tourneys, a vote is usually started at our Thursday meeting and totaled at the meeting scheduled just before the cutoff date for roster updates (usually Tuesday night).

5.1.3 An alien is designated "vote collector." All votes should be ICQ or emailed to that alien. Verbal vote is ok as long as you private message it.

5.1.4 A candidate needs a majority of "Yes" votes (i.e., more "Yes" than "Abstain" votes) to get issued a probe license.

5.1.5 An alien can vote Yes, No, Abstain, or Decline.
     a. Yes = "I think candidate is probe-worthy."
     b. No = "At this time, there is no way the candidate is getting into      this clan."
     c. Abstain = "I've been active, but I don't know candidate well      enough to vote Yes."
     d. Decline = "I haven't been active enough to make any      determination."

5.1.6 A "No" vote (even just one) means the candidate cannot be recruited. These votes are taken very seriously.
     a. An alien voting "No" must provide a valid reason.
     b. Only a unanimous vote from available uFo Leaders can overturn      a single  "No" vote.
     c. If the candidate receives more than one "No" vote, the vote      stands.

5.1.7 Aliens may change their votes up to the moment when they are totaled.

5.1.8 All candidates must wait until the next meeting (where votes are totaled) to be officially inducted into the clan.

5.1.9 Failure of the candidate to show up at the vote totaling/induction meeting is grounds for waiting until a subsequent meeting to officially induct the candidate. In other words, show up or risk not getting in the clan.

5.2 Division President:

5.2.1 DPs are the only positions in Clan uFo that are voted upon by aliens.
     a. When suitable candidates have been nominated by the uFo      Leaders, an election will be held.
     b. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes will be      elected.
     c. Ties will be settled by the uFo Leaders.

5.2.2 DP elections are held whenever a DP resigns or at the discretion of the uFo Leader and Co-Leaders.

5.2.3 ARC DP elections are usually held at the end of a tourney season.

6.0 Code of Conduct

6.1 Computer gaming is supposed to be fun. When it isn't, and it's due to a uFo clan member, action may be taken. The action taken will depend upon the severity of the offense and attitude of the offender. Possible actions include verbal reprimands, suspension from tourney rosters, or immediate dismissal from the clan.

6.2 No clan member will be dismissed for honest mistakes in judgement. In other words, if the alien really thought he/she was doing the right thing, it can be excused.

6.3 The following list provides grounds for action to include dismissal from uFo:

6.3.1 Blatantly disregarding instructions given by a uFo Leader (and their designated representatives), admin personnel on gaming web sites, or referees in official tourney matches.

6.3.2 Use of racial slurs or blatant acts of discrimination.

6.3.3 Personal attacks, to include sexual harassment, upon other clan members, either in public or private.

6.3.4 Cheating in online games.

6.3.5 Smurfing (playing under another name on any team) in an official tourney match.

6.3.6 Maliciously passing computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, etc.

6.3.7 Using the official *uFo* handle with a name other than their name as it appears on our official Clan uFo Roster. (It's ok to smurf [but see rule 6.3.5], just don't smurf with *uFo* handle. For example, SirSmurfy is ok, *uFo* SirSmurfy is not.)

6.3.8 Spamming or other mischievous acts against gaming or clan web sites.

6.3.9 Revealing the results of a clan vote or otherwise breaking confidentiality in clan matters.

6.3.10 Unsportsman-like conduct.

7.0 Probe-bation

7.1 Recruits

7.1.1 All alien recruits start off with a probe-bation period, which is usually two weeks, but can be longer.

7.1.2 Recruits are evaluated for attitude, skill, teamwork, and participation in clan activities.

7.1.3 The uFo leaders will determine when a recruit is off probe-bation status.

7.1.4 Recruits are granted access to the members-only board and Game Admin server privileges once they are off probe-bation status. Recruits that are also former uFo members may be granted immediate access.

7.1.5 There is no time limit for probe-bation, but if you have been on it for two months, take a hint.

7.1.6 If the uFo Leaders have determined that the recruit is NOT probe-worthy, the recruit will be given an opportunity to resign from the clan.

7.2 Aliens

7.2.1 Aliens breaking the Code of Conduct may be placed on Probe-bation by the uFo Leaders.

7.2.2 Probation Aliens cannot vote and lose access to the Alien-Only forum and Game Admin privileges to the server.

7.2.3 The uFo Leaders will decide the fate of these poor souls.

8.0 Tournaments

8.1 Official tournaments include the APL and AGN. Participation is not mandatory, but those that want to represent uFo in tourneys must abide by uFo tourney rules.

8.2 The ARC DP or his/her designated representative will make all decisions concerning aliens on the tourney rosters.

8.3 Match times for each game will be posted. Aliens wishing to represent uFo can sign up for each game they feel they can attend. Additionally, aliens knowing that they have conflicts can post this info for each game affected.

8.4 The ARC DP will chose the starting lineup for each game at least three days prior to the event.

8.5 If not enough aliens sign up for a match, players on the tourney roster will be drafted and their name placed on the roster by the ARC DP or his/her designated representative.

8.6 It will be up to each alien on the tourney roster to verify if they are playing or not.

8.7 Aliens on a published roster must attend the game assigned. If an alien can't make a particular match, he/she must notify the ARC DP.

8.8 Aliens that miss assigned matches and fail to notify the ARC DP will be suspended from that tourney. The uFo Leaders will decide upon the length of the suspension.

8.9 Aliens on suspension can only play at the discretion of the ARC DP or in tourney matches when there are not six other aliens available to start.

9.0 Server

9.1 The server is a PIII Dual 1Ghz RAID with 1.5 GB SDRAM. It's on a DSL with a bandwidth of 1572 k. The bandwidth is scheduled to go over 3 m in Sept 2002.

9.2 All aliens not on Probe-bation status have Game Admin privileges to our server. This includes Honorary Aliens.

9.3 Game Admins have admin authority on our game server, including setting the password, restarting the game and/or server, and muting, kicking, or banning unruly humans.

9.4 Game Admins are urged to first ask a human to leave rather than just booting him/her. Also, do not play fun and games with the admin powers. Aliens caught abusing privileges may find that their Game Admin password doesn't work anymore.

9.5 Server Admins are those few aliens chosen to maintain the server itself. Duties include writing, editing, and loading configuration files and maps, resetting the server, and updating the list of aliens with Game Admin rights.

9.6 Server Admins must not connect to the server via vnc while there are people in the game. This is because vnc makes a secure connection that may get hosed up if ARCers are present. You may get away with it, and you may also get away with pointing an unloaded pistol to your head and pulling the trigger. Either idea is bad.

10. Glossary

AGN – ARC Gaming Network

Alien Invasion – A group of aliens probing on ARC. The aftermath usually includes limping humans and frightened farm animals.

APL – ARC Premier League

ARC DP – ARC Division President

ARC DVP – ARC Division Vice President

Candidate – A nipple pilot that is being assessed for recruitment.

Game Admin – All aliens not on Probe-bation have Game Admin privileges on our server. In certain cases, non-aliens will have Server Admins, e.g., Game Admin for tourneys that uFo sponsors.

Honorary Alien (HA) – These retired aliens can still wear the *uFo* tag, but have no voting rights and can't play in official tourneys. HA's can be re-voted upon when they are active again.

MLA – Major League ARC

Probe-bation – For recruits or aliens, you are on probe-bation till the uFo Leaders decide otherwise. For recruits, the Probe-bation Period is mainly used to allow aliens that weren't in on the voting process to have a say. It's also used to allow clan members to check out the recruit. Recruits and aliens on Probe-bation have no voting rights and do not have access to the Aliens Only forum or Game Admin access to the uFo server.

Probe License – If you are wearing the *uFo* tag, you got a license to probe.

Probes – Probes are issued by the mothership. If you leave and return to the clan, you get the same probe back. If any alien doesn't know what a probe is used for, you need to watch the South Park alien episodes. KY jelly helps greatly in the probe insertion process. Some humans don't deserve lubrication.

Recruit – A candidate that has been voted in, but is still on Probe-bation status.

Server Admin – These aliens maintain the server itself. Responsibilities include resetting the server daily and writing, editing, and loading config files and maps.

Suspension – An alien can be suspended from tourney matches for a number of reasons. The most common is unsportsman-like conduct. An alien on suspension can only play if there are not six aliens available to start a match. The ARC DP may decide to start a suspended alien if it is in the best interest of the clan.

UAL – United Arc League

uCC (uFo Clan Competitions) - These events are held periodically. They consist of various types of matches including 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 4 vs 4, etc. Winners get bragging rights and their names listed in the Mothership Hall of Fame.

uFo Leader – Clan Leader, three Co-Leaders, ARC DP, ARC DVP. These aliens make the decisions in the clan that don't require a clan vote.
